GH2K Trade School ProjectImportant Target Dates for Tradeschool Project
Additional Information About Our ModelIf you'd like more information about the vision for our Trade School project, please read this document produced by the UK nonprofit, Teach a Man to Fish, and Fundacion Paraguay. It is a model for a rural school that teaches students to "Learn by Doing" and also funds itself based on small enterprises that students work at as a part of their education. We are using many of the concepts and principles that these organizations have been using for years and hope to teach our students via classwork and practical life experience. Please read this manual and you will see where we are hoping to go with this exciting new facet of Give Hope 2 Kids.

As we've worked at schools in our valley, we've been heartbroken at the lack of opportunities that exist for young people in Honduras. There are glimpses of hope like we saw at Instituto El Rey (which we taught at for 2 years) but the hard truth is that most Honduran young people only finish sixth grade (if they're lucky) and often have very few options to recieve further education.
One of our main goals for 2015 is to make steps in providing options for young people from local villages. We want to provide a trade school where they can learn basic skills like welding, carpentry, automotive repair, and also get training on how to start their own business. Admittedly, this will be small step towards addressing problems that affect millions of young people in this struggling country, but we hope to learn principles that we will be able to use in multiple locations and pass on to other nonprofits and ministries that work with young people in Honduras. |
