Our New College Scholarship Program

We want to let you in on a new ministry that we are in the process of launching.  We are starting a Scholarship Program for a few graduates from  Instituto El Rey.  We can help students get a university degree, while providing them with work and an opportunity to be discipled.

Many of you know that when we, Jason & Sarah Furrow, moved to Honduras in 2006, we dedicated two years to the incredible Christian high school,  Instituto El Rey.  Several of our students there really stood out to us for their great work ethic and strong faith.  We really want to see these young people succeed, which is the first part of the equation.
The second part, is that every week we run English, computer, and music classes, the Library Program, and the Youth Group, and we need more helpers.  We need quality part-time workers who will help us make these ministries happen and we think these scholarship students will be the perfect fit.

We see this Scholarship Program as a way to invest in the
lives of these young people, both academically and spiritually, and it brings workers and good influences to our kids.  We're so excited to get started!  The first three students that will be a part of this program are already living in our Volunteer House. If you've visited us in the past few months you may have met José Rito, Miryan, or Katy.  They have started working for us and are in the process of applying for university and taking admission tests.  Stay tuned for more updates!

Playing, Growing, and Being Loved

Sometimes it's easy to get caught up in the day to day drama of caring for kids, with "this kid won't do their homework" or "that kid jumped off the top bunk and bumped his head."  It's easy to get side-tracked and take our mind off the big picture.  These kids are very normal kids; they're sometimes frustrating and stubborn.  But when we think about this last year that they've lived here and compare our first months with them to what their lives are like now, we know we've made huge progress.

These kids are loved on and cared for by their house parents, the families that live here, and our volunteers.  They've been learning in the Library, gaining responsibility through chores, and getting a chance to romp around outside and be kids.  We're seeing growth in everything from self-confidence, to better behavior, to the overcoming of physical limitations.

The dream of giving these kids a new life, a better life, is really happening!  Little by little we are seeing their lives change.  The process is not without its bumps and set-backs, but we are really making a difference in their lives.  These kids will have a much different life because someone cares about them.

With that being said, we want to announce that we are ramping up to open a third home for children in the first half of 2013!   We feel blessed with the 10 children that we care for, but also know that there are many more unwanted and unloved children that a need a place where they are wanted and loved.

In this season of thanksgiving, we want to give a hearty thanks to those of you who help make our ministry possible!  You   are making the difference in these kid's lives.

Introducing... the Babies!

We have two new babies here at our place.  First let me introduce our newest arrival.  He is 6 days old and just came home from the city last night.  This is little José David, David and Olga's second child.  Their daughter Abisag will be turning 3 in December.  Abi is very excited to be a big sister and we're sure she'll be quite the helper.

And this is Eliana Grace, our (Jason & Sarah's) second child.  She is 2 1/2 months old now and exactly 1 1/2 years younger than her big brother Josiah.  Josiah loves being a big brother and calls her "my baby."
